Super-high definition 3D Cameras :: Face recognition

These 3D images were taken with a single shot and do not contain any frame/shot averaging. The points were then connected into a shell to present a better perspective when the image is rotated. These 3D images have been rotated by 45 or 90 degrees and clearly show distinctive facial features. A commercial digital camera took the visible image.

In this day and age that we live in, national security takes top priority. Keeping track of people and knowing their whereabouts is of utmost importance. The ability to identify and track people and/or terrorists has, over the past few years, been a top priority. The ability to identify suspect people has remained a complex problem to analyze and solve. A 3D image of a suspect’s face would enhance the identification process due mainly to the fact that humans see in three dimensions and tend to recognize 3D images better. Not only are facial shots possible but also the whole movement of the body can be characterized and labeled. This means that the way a person walks and swings his arms and body is also an identification procedure in characterizing a friendly person or an enemy combatant. The technical ability to capture 3D facial and body images of people while on the move is here today.
